Main Purposes
- Discussion with young people from Brazil on their view about the way their country should develop and progress in the future.
- Discover the beauty of Brazil and to know more about their culture.
- Establish comparison life in Brasil with the development in EU countries.
- Meet with local universities and administration with the intention of popularizing the Youth in Action program
- Meetings with local non-governmental associations and organizations working with young people – talks about their problems and needs.
- Sightseeing of the most typical places in the republic.
Daily activities plan - Brasil - the Diversity Country
Day 1 - Arrive at Sao Paulo Airport
Trip to S Jose dos Campos - 100 km from the airport.
Getting to the accommodations and resting from the long trip.
Day 2 - S Jose dos Campos – Sao Paulo State
Morning – Getting to know ourselves
Meeting all the participants – learning names, talking to each other;
Setting ground rules for the Program and outlining the activities plan.
Lunch – together as an international group
Afternoon - Getting a feel of S Jose – visiting some parts of the town guided by local youngsters.
Night - Free time to explore the town and be with new friends.
Day 3 - S Jose dos Campos
Morning - Meeting with local non-governmental organizations working with young people.
Afternoon - Visiting community interest centers, schools and informal education organizations.
Night - Social activities and getting together with local groups (art, dance, etc.)
Day 4 - Trip to Lavras - Minas Gerais State
Morning – (In S Jose) Discussion groups with local youngsters about life in this progressive city.
Afternoon – Bus trip to Lavras
Lunch in one of the small mountain communities on the way.
Night- getting settled in Lavras - where the group meets with the host organization – ASPAT.
Day 5 - Knowing Lavras
Morning – Meet local authorities (Mayor, Universities’ representatives, Chamber of Commerce; Local Community Clubs.)
Dialogue with local people, youngsters and authorities about Living in Lavras.
Afternoon – Walking around the town guided by CEDET’s students.
Night – Free to see Lavras
Day 6 – Having a look around the region (South of Minas Gerais)
Morning – Seeing Itumirim – A small rural community with its cheese factory, milk farm and coffee plantation...
Afternoon – Being in Carrancas –
An experience of local a sight seen spot, with its lovely 6 waterfalls
Swimming with local youngsters in one waterfall.
Night – Free to enjoy a small town atmosphere.
(Probability of spending the night in Carrancas, or back to Lavras (60 km.)
Day 7 - Lavras- the "City of Ipes (a flower tree) and Schools"
Morning – Resting from the day before
Afternoon – Discussion with local young people on their view about the way Brasil should develop and progress in the future.
Night - Middle term evaluation of the Program by the participants.
Day 8 and 9 - A Touch of History
Day 8 - Leaving Lavras in the morning, visiting S Joao del Rey and Tiradentes - 18th century cities marked by the times when Brasil was a Portuguese Colony);
Afternoon - Visiting Ouro Preto - Minas Gerais first Capital
A very tourist place, Designated by ONU as World Patrimony, keeps the mark of the gold mines era and the cradle of the 1792 Brazilian Insurrection against Portugal.
Night – Trip to Belo Horizonte –
Day 9 - Visiting Belo Horizonte
A modern city built to be the State Capital in the end of the 19th Century,
Morning - Sightseeing in Pampulha – Projected by the world known Architet Niemayer and visiting the Federal University of Minas Gerais, the third university in Brasil.
Lunch at the University cafeteria
Afternoon – Trip back to Lavras (280 km)
Day 10 - Trip to Vitoria - Espirito Santo State
Vitoria is on the Atlantic sea shore, has a very busy commercial seaport and a beautiful scenery with contrasting sea, mountains and lovely beaches.
Morning – Leaving for Vitoria ( a 8 hour bus trip).
Afternoon and/or Night – getting settled in Vitoria
Day 11 - Visiting Vitoria
Morning – Walking around and enjoying the beautiful beaches of Vila Velha or Manguinhos.
Afternoon - Visiting community interest centers and getting together with local carnival groups;
Night – Free time to see Vitoria
Day 12 - Last day of the Program
Morning – Group discussion about what was learned in Brasil; comparisons with each group’s, countries and cultures; preparing material for final report.
Afternoon – Presentation of each group’s comments and observations.
Final Evaluation of the Program .
Night – Fare well party (Planned by the Participants).
Day 13 - Leaving Vitoria for Sao Paulo
Connecting to the flight back home. Brasilian group traveling back to Minas Gerais.
