DR. WERNER BALOGH, UNITED NATIONS OFFICE FOR OUTER SPACE AFFAIRS


Programme Officer in the Space Applications Section at the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, Dr. Werner Balogh holds a PhD in Technical Physics from the Vienna University of Technology, a MA degree in International Relations from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and a MSc degree in Space Studies from the MSS Programme at the International Space University. His current work at the UN OOSA Space Applications Section focuses on capacity building in basic space technology with particular emphasis on small satellites.

During his career, Dr. Balogh has worked as an International Relations Officer in the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites in Darmstadt, Germany and at the Austrian Space Agency as a Programme Manager responsible for national programme, space sciences, human spaceflight, space transportation technologies and space technology transfer.

Dr. Balogh was an Associate Expert for Space Applications at the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs responsible for a series of regional and international meetings, symposia and workshops covering the fields of Earth Observation, satellite telecommunications, tele-health, tele-education and satellite navigation. In 1996, he worked at NASA Johnson Space Centre at the Placement at the Planetary Missions and Materials Branch of the Earth Science and Solar System Exploration Division.

Currently, Dr. Balogh is also a guest lecturer at the Department of European, International and Comparative Law at University of Vienna. He has provided consultancy work for the European Commission, Department of Air Force of the US Department of Defense, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology and the Association of Austrian Space Industries.
